Jan Stapleton
I work on several series of paintings based on a ‘sense of place’. Over time each painting becomes part of an ongoing body of work related to that place - Jan Stapleton.
Based in Sydney, Jan Stapleton is a contemporary Australian landscape painter who has been exhibited extensively throughout the country over the past 25 years. Her stylized, poetic landscapes reference the French Impressionists as well as the work of Fred Williams, the great Modernist.
Jan has traveled through remote areas of Cape York, Lake Eyre, the Northern Territory, Western Australia’s Kimberley and Pilbara regions gathering visual material for her paintings. Her latest body of work, the lilypond series, is inspired by visits to Kakadu in Darwin’s tropical North. These paintings, with their highly textured surface and sensuous palette have a serene, dream-like quality.
