Bernard Ollis OAM “Time Travelling”

  • Aarwun Gallery Shop 11, Federation Square, O'Hanlon Place Nicholls, ACT, 2913 Australia (map)

How do you make the ordinary seem extraordinary?

As a visual artist, one of my roles is to try and stop you in your tracks. And as you try to walk past the image, it lures you back, to reconsider what you had been looking at before.

A good artwork should never reveal all of its secrets to you in one hit. The best art, in any museum or gallery, forces you to return and when you do, it reveals to you (and only you) something more. Sometimes this experience takes hours, or even days, before you get there. You could liken the event to listening to a serious musical piece. These particular artworks chosen specifically for this Aarwun solo exhibition, have been created and inspired by visits to specific locations, imagined or seen. They are never about accurate copies, after all that is the role of the camera. The paintings and ceramics in the process of creation, have been physically turned and twisted, heightened through tone and colour, exaggerated and intensified, viewed from a multitude of angles, differentiated by pattern and shape, and finally synthesised into one unique image.

I hope you enjoy these works as much as I have enjoyed the challenge of travelling through time with them.

Join us for an extraordinary journey through time and imagination with renowned artist Bernard Ollis. His latest solo exhibition, Time Travelling, presents a vibrant and evocative collection of works that transport viewers across eras and places, blending past, present, and future with his signature whimsical style.
