Raíces y Alas means “Roots and wings” in Spanish. For me, it’s about honoring where I come from while also being grateful for where I am now. This body of work lives in that balance.
In these pieces, you’ll see birds, animals, the human form, and bold colours, but they carry deeper meaning. They reflect resilience, courage, faith, heritage, and at the heart of it, connection, with references to my grandmother, la Virgen de Guadalupe, my family’s migration story, and memories that have shaped me.
Much of this work has grown out of quiet moments spent painting, praying, and journaling, sometimes during challenging times, where I’ve found clarity, purpose, peace, and opportunities for growth.
Raíces y Alas is personal, but it’s also something many of us can relate to, finding strength in our roots while learning to move (or fly) through life with intention.
Exhibition dates: 16 August - 31 August
