Sandra House "The Poetry of Nature"

  • Aarwun Gallery Shop 11, Federation Square, O'Hanlon Place Nicholls, ACT, 2913 Australia (map)

Aarwun Gallery presents The Poetry of Nature, a solo exhibition by Sandra House, whose practice reflects a sustained engagement with the Australian landscape as a site of both visual contemplation and emotional resonance. House’s works occupy an intersection between observational fidelity and painterly interpretation, where the precision of botanical and environmental detail is tempered by a lyrical sensibility.

Drawing upon traditions of landscape painting, House’s compositions articulate the subtleties of light, seasonal change, and the tactile qualities of natural forms. Her brushwork, often delicate yet deliberate, conveys an acute awareness of the transient phenomena within the natural world—the way foliage shifts in a breeze, or the tonal variations of a sky at dusk. Through these elements, her paintings invite a slower, more attuned mode of looking, one that approaches nature as a source of both visual structure and poetic metaphor.

In The Poetry of Nature, House positions nature not as a passive subject, but as an active interlocutor in the creative process. Her works suggest that landscape is not merely to be depicted, but to be engaged with—its rhythms, textures, and silences resonating in ways that transcend the purely pictorial. In doing so, she extends the lineage of Australian painters who seek to reconcile the descriptive with the interpretive, producing works that are at once grounded in place and imbued with an enduring lyricism.
